Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spots.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are susceptible, however to punctures. Make sure you have an emergency repair kit.

Sturdy frame

The latest figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggie – that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that are able to be more versatile in terrain, while still looking stylish and easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found it was able to handle grass, cobbles, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was sturdy to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) have suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to feel comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others allow a parent facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or muddy walks. This buggy can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4 and comes with a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets inside the hood, and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels give your buggy greater stability when driving over rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also help you navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Certain three-wheeled buggies have swivel wheels on the front to aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for greater speed and stability. This is also helpful in the event that you hit a tree root or stray curb, since the front wheel will rise up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air filled tyres which means they are able to handle many different terrains and are much more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures and you’ll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are among our top 3 wheel compact stroller-wheelers. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, “perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles” and can easily go up and down kerbs. The buggies also have a suspension that Kath says “smooths out bumps very effectively”.

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite large, and may struggle to fit into narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or have to squeeze through doorways that are narrow while traveling. The majority of models come with small 3 wheel stroller folding options that let you remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the major advantages of a three-wheel buggy is that it’s much more maneuverable especially with a child on the way. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels spin at a whim and are extremely maneuverable and are ideal for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheeler pushchairs from birth-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: “The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough ground with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also awed by the way it handled the kerbs, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. I found it extremely steady when I was driving downhill or on uneven ground.”

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheeler Pushchair Off road-wheel buggy may make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you need to keep in mind if your home area is a city. If this is an issue, a 4-wheel buggy might be a better option for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars protect your child from bumps and scrapes while out and about. They are quick and easy to put in and will make your child feel secure and safe whilst out on the town or tackling tough terrain.

The bumper bar is designed to complement the sleek lines on the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller. It features a soft, padded surface that offers an ideal place for your child to hold onto during walks. The sling is stowed within the frame it is not positioned on top like the modular seat. This creates a lower centre of gravity for your infant at the ideal height, and also offers excellent weight distribution to make it easier to push over curbs (it is much easier to push the stroller up and over than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was excellent on cobbles and grass. It’s also a good option for running with its air-filled tyres and the lockable swivel wheel.

With a chic and sophisticated design, this bumper bar is sure to draw attention wherever you go. It’s available in a range of colours and finishes to match your personal style. The bumper bar can be removed and put in place by a quick-release mechanism. The bumper bar is also easy to clean since it is constructed from sturdy materials. This makes it a great choice for families looking for a stylish and secure stroller accessory.

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the space of this buggy. There’s a big easily accessible basket that’s quite spacious for a buggy this small, plus there’s an easy-to-use pouch that zips up at the rear of the seat and two smaller mesh pockets in the hood to keep your phone and keys.
